Firstly, the renaissance range ran into trouble, we had managed to catch Will in a down period in his life. He had made his first ultra-modern miniatures for us (DRA007-012), but getting any more miniatures looked increasingly unlikely and the whole Renaissance project was iced.
Then, the Medieval Asia thread looked threatened. Seth again resigned, wanting to become a freelance sculptor, leaving us looking around for a replacement to enable us to keep promises to those gamers who had started in the period and needed Mongols, Chinese and Koreans to fill out their armies.

So back to making phone calls and chasing internet contacts, in the hope of adding depth to our sculpting pool. Almost simultaneously in march 2004, we commissioned two extra artists.

Mauro Gnani was keen to come to HQ and learn to sculpt first-hand. After a month or so around the office, Mauro was trusted to be able to pick up the reigns on the Medieval Asia thread. Adding at first the Song Chinese, then Mongol, Sui and Tang dynasties.

Richard Ansell had been toiling for Black Tree Design, and wanted out. Richard was asked to press on with our Ultra-Moderns. Starting with the SWAT troopers, customer had asked for, generic looking Police/Security and Corporate minis to fill out their modern skirmishes. Richard SWATs fitted the bill perfectly with the Riot–gear pack becoming very popular.

We were also approached by Mark Sims who was looking for a little light relief from his “Crusader” duties. He started work on our Aztec range.

The first SWAT’s, the first of our Collier made WWII US Marines, and the last of Seth’s moderns (Delta Force), were rushed into production for Aprils Salute04. The Show was this time host to a total of 90 TAG miniature packs, an increase on our first year’s total of 36. We could be seen to be growing, sometimes getting successful miniatures from a sculptor was process of negotiation and adaptation, but finally we had added the design capacity to match our ambitions.
