Later Eighty Years War Dutch
by pete - Saturday, June 30th, 2012

This army cover the troops of the United Provinces from 1590 -1648, and basically covers the end Dutch ‘Long War’ against the Spanish. Our miniatures would be best suited for the period after the truce of 1609 - 1621

Cavalry are primarily Cuirassiers, a troop-type the Dutch seem to have invented, and Arquebusiers lightly armoured, and equipped with firearms for distance shooting and pistol for melee.

Cuirassiers can be chosen for the Western Cuirassier packs that we have, or if players would prefer for the army after 1640; Demi-Cuirassiers might be more suitable. Arquebusiers are available as Carabins.

Infantry Hopen could be like our Low Germans or for variety like our boot-hosed High Germans for the Musketeers and Protestant Germans used for the Pikemen. The Dutch also employed large numbers of English and Scots mercenaries, so mixing in a few miniatures from these sources would add even more variety

Guns, Sakers for the Heavy Artillery, and Culverins for the Medium Artillery, crewed by Germans, English or Swedes.
