http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/pages/page.php?Conquistador-Cavalry-160

Hello, and welcome to a sneaky peek at the first of the Cavalry miniatures for our Spanish Century range.

These nine new 28mm miniatures are design to represent the small number of mounted warriors who accompanied Cortes to the New World. Each of the three new packs contains; three fully armoured Knights, mounted on un-barded horses. A majority of packs are sculpted to be equipped with light lances, but the miniatures are to be cast open handed to allow a degree of choice.
The third pack has all its miniatures armed with swords.

Werben Bamberg Lech Scenario Supplement

This supplement is designed for the Father Tilly rules and covers the end of the conflict between King Gustavus of Sweden and his bitter opponent Count Jean Tserclaus, Baron of Tilly, commander of the Catholic forces in Germany.

Three scenarios are described in this booklet, the first (the skirmish at Werben) is a small encounter game that does not require huge numbers of figures and can easily be handled by two players.

Italians released to beat price rise deadline

With a view to our forthcoming price increase, it has become somewhat of a article of faith that i work as hard as i can to get all the current unreleased 'greens' on the web-cart and into production before the deadline. It seems a bit of a fraud to tease people with pictures of new miniatures for there armies and then hold them back until after the rise goes in.

So this weeks release, clears the decks of new 28mm miniatures, we have more in pre-production due for release across the summer months, but for now this is what we have.

This weeks news item features more Italians for our early 16th Century range, which we have been calling The Spanish Century.

These four new packs of 28mm miniatures are the final few we shall have for these types in the early part of the 16th Century, they are suitable for what was to become know as the great Italian Wars, but they would also be useful for Italians (Venetians particularly) fighting against the Turks in the eastern Mediterranean and Balkans.

The full details of the packs are as follows;

Maximilian Guard greens on the workbench

After last weeks bad tidings, its much easier this week for me to bring you the latest news form the TAG Workbench.

These four new 28mm miniatures, sculpted by our in-house sculptor Nick Collier are the first of our Germans for the period at the start of the Italian wars, the are taken from the famous wood-cut images commissioned for the Emperor Maximilian, I shortly before his death in 1519. They appear almost at the end of the Maximilian triumphal procession, after the French, Turks, chariots and beasts, escorting a group of prisoners.

These are Nick first stab at the slashed clothes that are so distinctive of this period of military history, I have add a couple of extreme close images of the detail on these parts to show how Nick has tried to convey weight and movement. Slashing seams to have arisen in Italy in 1480's but it was the Germans and the Landsknechts in-particular that took it to its extremes

More German Musketeers and some ponies...

New on the workbench this week are a few packs to add to our huge Renaissance range, we have two new packs of German Musketeers in boot-hose and the conversions of the standing ponies we have made for our Cossack horse-holders.

The ponies are simple conversions, with the reigns back over the body of the beast, for riders to hold. These minis will not be added to any packs in particular, but every Tatar of Cossack pack that is now purchased will have an even greater mix of mounts to choose from.

The Musketeers are depicted in boot-hose as the previous packs that we release have proved very popular. They also all have 'forks' for supporting their muskets, which were very common in the period for which these are intended (1600 - 1640).

Escalade, added to Father Tilly rule-set family

Escalade is a set of skirmish rules designed for keen Father Tilly players - and anyone else interested in seventeenth-century warfare. Escalade takes the basic mechanics used in Father Tilly and incorporates that extra layer of detail required for battles at the skirmish level. The rules feature organisation at the company level and focus on the role of officers and NCOs in low level engagements.

Also included in the rules are a number of different troop types: those interesting and exotic units that are too small or rare to feature in most big battles. Players can field units of Jägers, Shützen, Sturmtruppen and Trabanten.

Just a few new packs to add to our shopping cart this week...

Firstly, a larger Ordinance piece of our going early Renaissance range. Guns such as these can be seen in large numbers in pictures and wood-cuts of the period, our is a copy of one from an Albrecht Durer illustration.

Secondly, we have a group of dismounted Cossacks, 3 miniatures with fire-arms holding and leading ponies. These miniatures were specifically designed to act as dismounted dragoon, which the Cossacks used in the 1650's.

Finally, a pack of Russian labourers, to act a gun crews for our Muscovite Russian range. Labourers are cast open handed and can be fitted with artillery equipments or tools, as requested.

These are the Greens for our Russian peasant labourers for use in the period 1575 - 1650. They are shown dressed in the same manner as our provincial Steltzi, with forked beards and rustic fur trimmed hats. These miniatures are stripped of their bulky outer-coats and sculpted with period shirts. All are cast open handed to make them suitable for gun crews if equipped with our slight artillery items or as labours if given axes or hammers.

Grand Ambition ready for download

Grand Ambition is another set of rules that uses the AB One system.

Having covered the Thirty Years War period and the English Civil War with previous versions, I wanted to finish off the seventeenth century by covering the wars of James II, Louis XIV and William III.

This later period saw the rise of the standing army: regular troops, funded by the state and employed all year round. This period also saw significant developments in weaponry and tactics and it is these changes that I hope are reflected in the rules. Included in the Grand Ambition rule book are sections detailing with the organisation of troops and the type of formations and tactics deployed.
